Auction 96 Auction Status: Closed
Dear Friends,
I am proud to be opening this my 96th auction, with over 500 lots and this one promises to be one of my best. Featuring an amazing selection of quality railroadiana including some exceptionally rare examples that will be great treasures for their new owners. I feel very fortunate to be entrusted to handle some amazing collections and have several large estates in the wings for upcoming auctions so you will want to keep up to date with what is forthcoming.
As next year approaches I realized I will be proudly offering my 100th issue and hope to be able to launch that auction on the 30 year anniversary of our official debut of Railroad Memories. Bill & I started out by opening a small shop in Georgetown, Colorado home of the infamous Georgetown Loop Railroad. We had been collecting for several years. We loved the town and decided a store devoted to railroad collectibles was worth chancing. After being open for less than a month a gentleman by the name of Bob Jones came into the store and we began a friendship that would last many more years. Bob was a long time enthusiast and wanted to liquidate his collection. So in November 1987 we produced our first auction catalog which featured 223 lots with 23 black & white photos. We sent out over 1000 catalogs to the members of the RCAI. We kept our store front for another few years and then decided to devote our time exclusively to doing the auctions. And so as it goes the rest is history.
For those of you who have been with us since the beginning, Thank you. It has truly been a pleasure to get to know so many wonderful people who love these amazing pieces of history as much as we have. And more importantly there are countless numbers of you who have become my dear friends.
So I look forward to continuing to help you add to your collections. Or in the case of potential consignors, assisting you in finding new owners for your pieces. I have had the pleasure of handling 10’s of thousands of individual relics and so when asked if I collect as well I can assure you that I get the best of both worlds. I get to handle, describe, house, photograph, auction & ship all over the country. So I get to fill my need to collect on a daily basis by just doing business. It’s a job and I am so lucky to be doing it.
Once again thank you and I do hope you enjoy this issue. For those of you who subscribe to the catalogs they were mailed yesterday. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have questions. And remember as well to support the two organizations shown below that are instrumental in helping us keep the hobby alive.
Good luck Bidding,
Sue
