Lot: 79 Description: SANTA FE INDIAN PANEL - This striking wooden panel features a captivating Native American design rendered in a harmonious palette of tan, burgundy, and turquoise. Originally crafted for the Santa Fe Budd cars, these panels were strategically placed between the windows, serving as both decorative and functional elements within the train interiors. The panel measures an impressive 22 1/2" x 33 1/8", making it a substantial piece of railroad history and art. The reverse side of the panel bears the marking "Top X-68-75513," which provides a reference to the specific Budd car it was removed from, further enhancing its historical significance. The edges of the panel are notched, indicating the points where it was once attached within the car. While age and travel have left their marks, including a small chip, a 3-inch split, and some additional minor holes, these imperfections can be easily concealed if the panel is framed. This represents both a historical artifact and a decorative treasure with enduring appeal. Minimum bid: $300 Price Realized: $625 |
