Lot: 113 Description: MR&LE RR CO SIGN – (Mad River & Lake Erie) early wooden sign dated 1853 in the shape of a shield. Raised letters with stars this measures approximately 18”x 25”. This is obviously very early, as it appears handmade square nails were used with the exception of a few replacements. Construction began in 1835 and was the 2nd railroad to be built & operated in Ohio. Completed in 1849 the line changed ownership 4 times over the years until 1892 when it was controlled by the Big Four. I am guessing this might have been proudly displayed on a depot along the line. Sign is fragile but still complete. An historic treasure sure to please. Minimum bid: $100 Price Realized: $460 |
