GREAT NORTHERN RY MEMORIAL
Lot: 434  Description: GREAT NORTHERN RY MEMORIAL – Board of Directors meeting was held on Saturday June 3rd, 1916, to commemorate and memorialize the passing of James J. Hill. This incredible and ornate encased book was prepared by Tiffany & Company and comes housed in original velvet lined wood case hallmarked Tiffany & Co New York. The leather-bound book is bound with a metal frame and measures 9” x 11 ½” with 6 ornately printed pages outlining the life and successes of Mr. Hill. Final page is personally signed by all 8 directors. This is one of four pieces that are listed here. These came from the James J. Hill reference library that was in St Paul, Minnesota and originally built in 1916 by Mary T. Hill and the children to honor Mr. Hill. The library was unfortunately closed in July 2019, due to “unsustainable operating costs and needed capital.” This comes complete and measures 15” x 12 ¼” in the outer cardboard box. Top right corner of the box is tattered, but the contents is all in impeccable condition. I am excited to be offering such an amazing piece of history that will be a treasure for the next caretaker to enjoy.
