SP CO LANTERN
Lot: 374  Description: SP CO (Southern Pacific) on shoulder of 1882 brass top double wire guard frame with twist off 1873 bell. Comes with exquisite 6” cobalt blue embossed “SP Co” extended base globe with ¾” block letters in a rectangular panel. This could be the only known globe with this style of lettering. There is no question that only a couple of these exist in collections today. The frame is in amazing condition still boasting some original tin. Leaf latch needs to be re-soldered. Underside of bell shows all the Adams & Westlake 1873 patents however, fairly worn. By far the rarest and most beautiful lantern I have had the honor of handling in over 30 plus years of doing auctions. From the Frank Kidd Museum collection this lantern will be one to talk about for years to come.
