Lot: 72  Description: D&SP 168 STAGE CO TAG - (Denver & South Park) brass baggage tag measuring 1 ½” x 1 ¾”. One of the first stage companies that was built in 1860 and operated by Castro & Sheppard. It went into the South Park district to serve Fairplay, the Tarryall Diggings, Buckskin Joe, Breckenridge, California Gulch, and surrounding areas. It is stated that many of the early stagecoach lines became part of the railroads when they were constructed. A pass was sold several years ago from this company and realized $3000.00. Auction 112 featured tag #94. This one however, has been dug, leaving a heavily pitted surface. Without doubt still extremely rare and would be a treasure for the new owner.
