Lot: 414  Description: RIO GRANDE SOUTHERN / SILVERTON RR PASS – 1892 silver filigree pass No. 163 issued to Samuel Thomas. Pass is hallmarked S. Spitz Santa Fe on reverse. Samuel Russell Thomas built railroads in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Nebraska, Tennessee, Georgia & Alabama from 1878 to 1882. He served as President and director of several railroads including the Nickel Plate, ETV&G, LE&W, DSS&A, MH&O, M&CRR and the R&DRR, from that point on until his death in 1903. I was unable to find a direct connection to Otto Mears but given his history, it is no surprise that they had crossed paths somewhere along the line. This pass is in beautiful condition. So don’t miss this chance to add a treasured piece to your collection.
