D&RGW RR WOODEN SIGN

Lot: 140  Description: D&RGW RR WOODEN SIGN (Denver & Rio Grande Western) - Royal Gorge Route Scenic Line logo painted on wooden sign. Sign is comprised of 7, rounded wood planks that have been notched to securely fit together. Supported with 4 cross planks on the back. Has 6 mounting holes and shows signs of natural weathering from being hung outside. Measures 31" x 32". A note on the back of the sign from a previous owner suggests this would have been displayed at a D&RGW depot in Moffat County which would suggest the depot in Craig, Colorado. I was able to find an identical example in a photo of the Creede, Colorado depot. Many of you are probably familiar with Bud Ritchie; he was a sign painter for the Rio Grande Railroad, and it is likely he could have built and painted this sign sometime over the course of his career. This is a very unique and beautiful piece of Colorado Railroad history that will make a great display item for your collection.
