SANTA FE PORTER-BRAKEMAN BADGE
View:  Main (LargeView 2 (Large)
Lot: 59  Description: SANTA FE PORTER-BRAKEMAN- black enameled letters under logo on crown style nickel plated cap badge with holes on either side for brad attachment. Only small enamel remnants remain in the logo. This rare badge is from Warren Scholl’s collection.. I have copied an excerpt from an article here, “Porter-Brakeman was a very rare occupation on the Santa Fe, they only worked trains like The Fast Mail Express that carried a handful of passengers in a rider coach/combine. Their job was basically to be the head brakeman and porter to tend the said handful of passengers.” A lot of research went into examining the history of this designation. Click here to read the article written by Bryan Moseley explaining the history of this rare occupation and my thanks go out to him for allowing me to share this with all of you.
