Lot: 71  Description: GREAT NORTHERN - front end number 10 plate delivered in November 1893. Built by Brooks Locomotive Works, Dunkirk, NY. From a 2-6-0 engine this rare GN relic appears to have been cut off the engine and in later years a threaded hole was added to the center. The engine eventually ended up as the Montana Western's #10 engine and was scrapped in 1947. Brass plate measures 17 3/4" diameter. Overall very acceptable condition and would make a wonderful piece to add to any collection. Lot will include several photographs of the engine in service as well as a copy of R&LHS Railroad History book #143 which lists detailed information on the engine. There is also a drawing of the engine sitting in front of the Conrad Depot along with a personal letter from the consignor. The consignor made a custom wooden box for shipment. The plate weighs 33 lbs and with the wooden crate it adds up to 50 lbs so keep that in mind. A great piece of history just needs a new caretaker.
