Lot 32

Lot: 32 Description: GREAT NORTHERN STAGES - blue & white enameled cap badge applied to navy blue cap with vented riser and black patent leather visor. Silver band held by two safety award pins one 7 year and the other a 10 year. Also attached are 3 union pins. This hat belonged to a retired employee. The GN Stages truck line was started in 1935 by the railroad to transport loads that were not as large to justify freight service. So a highway service was started in Montana. In 1950 they were given permission to run into Williston North Dakota and the name was change to Great Northern Railway. The employee told the consignor that the original paint on the badge got chipped off when he reached under the trailer to pull the 5th wheel pin. He swiped some paint and restored it using the color of the trucks. So, this is the reason for the blue and not the red, white & blue. Ultimately not many of these badges have survived and it is estimated that only 20 to 30 were originally produced. A printed copy of the history as well as a photo copy of the trucks will be included. A survivor sure to please. Minimum bid: $150 Price Realized: $150 |
