Lot: 83 Description: AT&SF - beautiful cast aluminum wall plaque decorated in turquoise blue, tan, maroon & black colors. This colorful Kachina Symbol was found in the Santa Fe Hi Level Lounge Cars. Created from designs inspired by the Hopi Indians this measures approximately 31" high and 14" wide with 5 mounting posts on reverse. Shows a few small nicks in the enamel mentioned for accuracy only. These amazing pieces of art were made for the El Capitan trains and first ordered in 1954. "Using Native Designs, Paul Phillipe Cret and his assistant John Harbeson of Philadelphia, along with Chicago based designer Sterling McDonald and Santa Fe's Roger Birdseye, worked together with the Budd Company to create artistic interiors like none other." (quoted from Al Wilcoxen who designed and created a slide show of the car interiors.) I have included several of the photos shared by Al Wilcoxen on the website as well. A wonderful piece of early Santa Fe history that will be a treasure for the new owner to enjoy for many years to come. Minimum bid: $2,000 Price Realized: $6,000 |
