Lot: 129 Description: UNION PACIFIC 3939 – cast iron front end number plate from Challenger engine 3939. Plate measures approximately 14 ¼” x 16 and is ¾” thick. Painted black with white border and highlighted letters. Includes a black & white photo of the engine, which was scrapped in the late 50’s or early 60’s. In over 30 years of conducting auctions this is the first opportunity I have had to handle such a rare piece of Union Pacific history.
